Plastiq

A bill pay service

Plastiq allows business owners and savvy consumers to use a credit card for virtually any expense, including those like rent that normally require a check.

The service makes it easier for cardholders to earn credit card rewards, take advantage of early payment discounts and use cash in the way that makes the most sense for them.

Plastiq launches innovative payment solutions in more than 150 countries around the world.

Users add a debit or credit card to their Plastiq account and charge it for the invoice amount. Then Plastiq pays the company on your behalf using a method the vendor accepts: ACH, wire transfer, or an old-fashioned paper check. (Checks, for example, are written by the vendor as from you, not Plastiq). The recipient does not need a Plastiq account to accept payment.

Plastiq can pay a vendor through:

  • Bank or ACH transfers
  • Credit cards
  • Wire transfers

Plastiq targets “largely underserved” small and medium-sized businesses. Plastiq’s platform facilitates payments between principal and contractor, automates payables and receivables, and frees up cash flow through business credit cards and short-term financing.

The company has more than 50,000 business customers and processes transactions amounting to nearly $4 billion per year.

The company was established in 2012 by Daniel Choi (Linkedin) and Eliot Buchanan (Linkedin) and is based in San Francisco, California.

Due to an increasing number of complaints about the company regarding poor customer service, canceled transactions, and freezing funds, as well as a lack of license levels, we put the company on our “Orange Compliance” list.
